What is Pilates?
Pilates is a low impact, mat based form of exercise. It works on the core muscles of the body, i.e. the abdominals and surrounding areas. Results to expect include:
• Postural correction
• Improved core stability
• Toned abdominals, thighs, bum and upper body
• Greater mind/body awareness
• Improved athletic performance
• Increased flexibility and stamina
Can anyone do Pilates?
Anyone can practice Pilates, either in a group or on a one-to-one basis with a qualified instructor. There are no age limits. Pilates is "progressive", meaning it progresses according to the persons own ability, and not the ability of the group as a whole.
One-to-one Pilates is suitable for anyone suffering with any form of injury where the person can be supervised and given appropriate exercises according to their specific ability at the time, and then later on move into a class situation.
